An action packed meditation of the role of the goalie, 'Goalkeepers' is a soccer short film demonstrating the rhythm of the position, from waiting, to false starts, to some of the most important moments of the game.

Developing Goalkeepers
Zito approached me after seeing ‘Good Morning Fremont Street’ to come aboard ‘Goalkeepers’. He had a very specific vision of rhythm and color that he wanted to bring to the sport he is so passionate about. Zito and Seth shot this footage at The Soccer Tournament in Carey, North Carolina. Zito wanted to emphasize the heat of the day in the footage and coloring.
First we discussed the rhythm of the goalie’s position: waiting for long stretches for any action before becoming the most important player on the pitch. I workshopped a version of this film with three waves of this cycle, but it felt too bulky and we streamlined it into one longer cycle of waiting, near misses, and finally the crescendo of action, defending the goal.
I collaborated closely with Zito to select the right music, which had to be changed a few times, requiring precise cuts to create a more exciting viewing experience. Color grading was the first thing we talked about when he first reached out, and I wanted to push the color to its limits and create a warm, colorful look.
